What is EI?

Emotions are very important. They guide our choices and decision. And they are an important aspect of our experience. Think about it: happiness and life satisfaction are both things we feel. And their opposites are too!

That's why increasing your emotional intelligence can help you tremendously in your life.

Emotional Intelligence (EI) was pioneered by Dr. Daniel Goleman in his 1998 book Emotional Intelligence: Why it can matter more than IQ.

The Goleman EI model is based on cutting-edge neuroscience and psychology. And on business research on what makes people successful and effective.

The EI model is very elegant. It has great depth. Yet it is based on two simple principles. 

Understand

EI helps you develop greater self-awareness. So you can better understand how your emotions work.

Manage

EI training grows your skills to better manage your emotions. 

These two principles not only apply to yourself, but also others. In EI training, you also learn to understand other's emotions better. And to better manage your relationships.

You Begin with an Introduction to Emotional Intelligence

The MBEID approach is practice oriented and experiential. We keep theory to a minimum. But, before you start training, you need to understand how EI works. Over 4-days, this email course teaches you all you need to know to get started. It will guide you to make your first mini EI Profile. The course also includes reflections and exercises. They will help you immediately apply what you learn to yourself and your life.

Your EI Profile
A 3-Part Self-assessment Process

Before you start the actual training, you need to have an honest look at yourself. You need to see where you are and reflect about where you want to be. This module includes three parts:

1) Your Emotional Intelligence Profile

The MBEID EI Profile goes into much more depth than the mini EI Profile of the intro course. It guides you through a process of self-reflection. To help you understand your level of emotional intelligence.

2) Your Personal Sustainability Assessment

Here, you investigate how sustainably you live. Whether you are maintaining your physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. And to look for warning signs of burn-out.

3) Envisioning Your Ideal Life Process

This module will guide you to reflect on your values and what is important to you. You will be guided to articulate your life vision. And you will reflect on what you would like to change in your life.

These three self-assessments, take 30–60 minutes each, and are best spread out over four days

After you complete your EI Profile, you will have your first coaching session.  In this session, I will help you understand the results of your assessments. Then we will together discover your learning opportunities and set your learning goals.

The Missing Manual For Your Mind Course
A 12-week Online Training with Daily Lessons and Assignments

Over 12 weeks, this course provides practical and experiential training to develop your inner skills. Its lessons are based on the methodology of learn - reflect - practice - apply.

• Short texts will explain the theory and practice of mindfulness and emotional intelligence.

• Over 50 summary charts will highlight the key points.

• 8 videos (5–10 minutes each) will bring each main topic alive.

• 35 different audio meditations (5-15 minutes each) will guide you.

• Daily assignments will support you to integrate mindfulness into your life.

• Reflection and journaling exercises will deepen your understanding and experience.

The course is divided into two 6-week parts.

The first part introduces you to mindfulness practice. This will help you be more present in your life and see yourself and the world more clearly. 

The second part is about practical wisdom. Here you learn to integrate emotional intelligence into your life. You will apply the abilities you cultivated in part one to better navigate your life.

You will have a final 90-minute coaching call four weeks after the 12-week training. You will get support on how to integrate what you learned into your life. And you will be guided to make a plan for how you can continue to develop your emotional intelligence.
